Free Will Baptist Children’s Home has been blessed to be able to see our 70th year of ministry. In 1947, we first opened our doors, and we have seen over 1,000 children since. Whether children have stayed with us for two months or over ten years, we are grateful for the opportunity to work with these kids and let them know that they are loved.
Our Story
In 1942 during the Second World War, the Alabama Free Will Baptist State Association purchased land and started raising money for a children’s home. That dream finally came true in September of 1947. We officially opened our doors and welcomed the first children to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home and have been running continuously ever since!
Our Mission
We have children brought to our home by family members, friends, parents, court officials, and/or child care professionals for all sorts of reasons – divorce, crisis, abuse, neglect, and more. Our goal is not to train children; instead, our mission is to show love, compassion, and understanding to children who may have never received these things. We hope that our work and sharing the love of the Lord will help create responsible and caring adults.
Our Celebration
To celebrate our 70th Anniversary, we will be hosting an old-fashioned picnic on Saturday, June 17th from 11 am to 2 pm. We will have hamburgers and hot dogs, and we can’t wait for a day filled with laughter, games, and spending time with friends. We would like to invite our former residents and staff, as well as supporters, donors, and friends of the ministry. We’re looking forward to seeing everybody and celebrating with all the people who have been a part of our home over the years.
