The world can be a negative place, which is no surprise, considering the fallen world in which we live. But through God’s mercy, there is good to be found that is worth sharing.
Here are a few positive news items to give you encouragement and hope as you go about your day.
Good Samaritan Reunited with Baby She Saved
Twenty years ago, Azita Milanian was jogging along a path with her dogs when one of her dogs stopped to sniff and scratch at a pile of dirt to the side. Azita investigated – and found two tiny feet sticking out of the dirt.
Horrified, she uncovered a newborn baby, umbilical cord still attached. It had been buried alive. Azita flagged down a motorist, who called 911. Deputies arrived and rushed the baby to the hospital – where thankfully it survived.
But the baby was soon adopted, and Azita lost touch – until earlier this year, when producers of “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” were able to connect her with the now-grown baby, named Matthew Whitaker.
The tearful reunion brought full-circle the harrowing experience that had united the two 20 years prior. Azita took Matthew back to where she had found him, and standing there by the path, Matthew said, “This could’ve been my grave.”
Azita could only tell him, “You were wanted.”

Britain’s Newest Royal Couple Make Heart-warming Donation to Hospice
Britain’s Prince Harry and his new bride Meghan Markle celebrated their wedding in May, complete with loved ones, a choir, a horse-drawn carriage, and – of course – lots of flowers.
But instead of simply throwing away the flowers once the wedding was over, the royal couple decided to donate all of the flowers used at the ceremony and reception to patients at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London.
The grateful hospice posted its thanks on Facebook, saying: “A big thank you to Harry and Meghan and florist Philippa Craddock. Our hospice smells and looks gorgeous. Such a lovely gesture.” A picture of a happy patient with a bouquet accompanied the post.
The bridal bouquet used by the new Princess Henry of Wales (her formal title) was then placed on the memorial to the Grave of the Unknown Warrior, the United Kingdom’s version of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Despite the glitz and the glamor, Britain’s Royal Family is actually heavily involved in philanthropy. The family supports 2,415 charities in the UK and nearly 3,000 across the world, and the newest couple are joining in: they asked that gifts to their wedding go to seven charities, ranging from the Children’s HIV Association to StreetGames, an organization that helps young people change their lives and communities using sports.
Scottish Cafe Builds a Village for the Homeless
In another story from the UK, a Scottish cafe chain is dedicated to helping the homeless so much that it just built a village for them.
Social Bite already runs a program that provides free food to the needy and homeless. Additionally, one out of every four people who work at the chain’s six locations is homeless. It took its philanthropy one step further by constructing 11 homes in a new village in Scotland that will house up to 20 homeless people.
The prefabricated homes will last up to 100 years and can be moved around if needed, but the Edinburg city council has loaned the land to the village for four years and could renew the loan at that time.
The goal is to provide housing that forms the basis of a new, stronger community, says Angela Constance, a government official. “Something special has been created. Not just building houses ,but building homes, building community – a community that will provide support and enable folk to rebuild their lives.”
