The world has a lot of negativity in it, and we hear about it every day – scandals, tragedies, and stories of suffering.
But there’s a lot of good in the world, too, and here at the Home, we want to share some of the positive stories we’ve seen, so that you can experience some of the hope that was placed in the world by our Lord.
Adopted Dog Saves Family from House Fire
Adoption is a wonderful thing – and in the case of one family in Texas, it saved their lives.
On March 4th, the Smith family was awakened by their dog, Chrome, alerting them. The problem: the house was on fire.
Thanks to Chrome’s act, the family was able to get out of the home safely. Unfortunately, the home was totally destroyed. But the family’s act of kindness toward Chrome was paid back by the act of kindness of others.
St. Peter’s Lutheran Church offered them local housing, while the animal shelter that had housed Chrome – Bastrop County Animal Shelter – gave the family $1,000 and plenty of dog food and treats for Chrome (along with an awesome certificate for the dog’s heroism).
Chrome and his family are safe, and adoption made it happen.
Two Friends from Ireland Are Helping the World to Smile
Smiling is a powerful thing; it can elevate your mood, help you bond with other people, and even guard against heart disease and high blood pressure.
It’s no wonder that two friends from Ireland are helping people to smile with their instagram page, SmileForMe2018.
Motivated by their own personal struggles – including stress, panic attacks, and bulimia – Leanne Coyle and Adam Fitzhenry decided they wanted to give people a reason to smile. So they take pictures of total strangers and ask their subjects to give a reason why they smile, in the hopes that it’ll inspire warmth and happiness in others.

Village in Guatemala Has Water Thanks to All-Female Engineering Team
Water is something we in the United States often take for granted. One village in rural Guatemala, La Esperanza, doesn’t – but now they can enjoy fresh water thanks to an all-female engineering team from the University of North Florida.
The team traveled to the village to design and install a drinking water system unlike anything the village had ever enjoyed. Previously, the villagers had to hike long, arduous miles to get access to clean water. Now, they can simply turn on a tap.
The team didn’t just bring water to the village; they also brought hope to the young women and girls of the village, who were inspired by watching women use engineering to make great things happen.
